  19. This is an interesting social phenonemon that calls for my $.02:

  21. We suffer flame-wars evidently because so many people are emotionally insecure
  22. and need constant assurances that the choices they make in life are, in fact,
  23. "good" ones.  This little quirk is commonly known as "cognitive dissonance"
  24. as is quite common among younger, less mature individuals who have not yet
  25. learned how to cope with their own feelings, much less coexist with others.

  27. Whenever I read a particularly senseless flame in this group (which is more
  28. often than not, unfortunately) I automatically stereotype the poster as a
  29. member of this group of rather insecure loners.  As a rule, I generally hate
  30. stereotypes, but flame-related posters bring this upon themselves.

  32. And while I overtly agree that "Atari zealots" are just as bad as "Atari
  33. bashers" we should realize that this _is_ comp.sys.atari.st and is the best
  34. place on the net to sing the praises of Atari, true or false.  If someone
  35. thinks his/her 520ST is the best computer on the planet, what's it to you?
  36. The mature individual would simply take solace in the knowledge that his
  37. "lap top Cray" is superior; the insecure child would feel the compelling need
  38. to tell the world that the 520ST owner is a flaming idiot.  Your opinions
  39. about this person may be right on the mark, but so what?  Capiche'?
  40.  
  41. These flame-wars will never end, but I do urge folks to consider what kind of
  42. image of themselves they are presenting to the world _before_ they hit Return.
