  11. I've been putting together an anonymous ftp site to distribute,
  12. among other things, GIF files of images from JPL's space
  13. missions.  Besides the picture files we would also like to offer
  14. people shareware/freeware GIF viewers for various platforms,
  15. including Amiga.

  17. From the faq for alt.binaries.pictures.utilities, I see some
  18. recommendations for Amiga GIF viewers.  However, it does not make
  19. it clear whether these viewers will work with GIF89a files; on
  20. other platforms, many viewers bomb when trying to view a GIF89a
  21. file.  (The main thing about GIF89a is that the file contains an
  22. embedded caption in the form of a "comment extension block." 
  23. Files under the previous GIF87a standard just had the image.)

  25. I don't have access to an Amiga, and so I wonder if anyone can
  26. recommend which GIF viewers do or don't work with GIF89a files. 
  27. (If you need to get your hands on a GIF89a file you can visit our
  28. ftp site, pubinfo.jpl.nasa.gov (128.149.6.2); the GIFs, all of
  29. which are GIF89a with embedded captions, are in the directory
  30. /images.)
