- Hi.
-
-
- Just recently, someone posted a 1.2 meg soundfile to alt.rave. It is a Sun
- .au soundfile that is compressed with ADPCM. I really want to listen to
- this sound file, but I have no way of uncompressing it! Can someone please
- EMail me a program that will decompress it, or point me to an FTP site that
- has the program? I only have an Amiga and am not a programmer so please,
- let it be an Amiga binary.
-
- Here's the ReadMe posting for it:

- The posting that follows is an ADPCM compressed Sun "au" format sound file,
- containing an entire (5:06) song by System 01 - "The Pleasure Principle".
- Those of you who have the "Berlin 1992 - A Tresor Kompilation" CD already
- know the track "Drugs Work" by the same band. "Drugs Work" originally
- appeared on a 5-track CD5 called "Victim 34". This track "The Pleasure
- Principle" appears on the same CD5 single.
-
- This file is 1.6 Mbytes uuencoded. If it were saved as a straight AU file,
- it would have been almost 3 Mbytes, so don't complain about the compressing.
- Once decoded, this file can be played with the Sun OpenWindows 3.x "audiotool"
- program (which can also run under X11, if you have the shared libraries it
- needs - libdeskset, libce and libtt, as well as the XView libraries - available
- to it) directly. Otherwise, you'll have to run it through an ADPCM decoder,
- such as OpenWindows' "adpcm_dec" (in $OPENWINHOME/bin) to get the uncompressed
- original AU file.
-
- Although any song sounds shitty in 8 KHz mono, this song is so great that I
- hope you can get the jist of it, and buy the original. Plus, I just got this
- audio cable for my home SPARCstation-1 clone, so I had to try it out on
- something (-:
-
- For those of you reading this on alt.rave, now that I have a machine at home
- I can rejoin the world of Usenet. My address is in the "Reply-To:" header of
- this posting. Through using mail2news I can get a machine at JPL to post
- this for me until I get C News up and running here at home.
-
- If you've read this far, yesterday's Los Angeles Times claimed that a U.S.
- tour for The Orb will commence in March; the L.A. date is rumored to be in
- "a special place", like an aircraft hanger.
