  14. Several people have asked about the procedures for installing a
  15. 3.5" floppy drive. In the past, I have been able to assist a couple
  16. of people who were attempting this upgrade, so I will try to
  17. come up with a set of instructions. But I need a bit of help.

  19. Each manufacturer and drive model need somewhat different jumper/switch
  20. selections to configure the interface correctly. If other people 
  21. who have installed 3.5" floppy drives would mail or post their drive 
  22. setups, I'll compile them all together.

  24. I already have quite a bit of information on physical mounting, cabling
  25. (both single drive and the 3.5" & 5 1/4" combination setup), etc. On the
  26. software side, I have modified the IV format table for 800K (10 sector)
  27. disks, added UA menu items for dealing with them, and configured mtools
  28. to work with 720K MS-DOS formatted floppies.  I have also created bootable
  29. 3.5" floppies with diagnostics and a floppy UNIX system for repair of
  30. scrambled hard disk file systems.

  32. I don't claim that I originated all this. I leaned heavily on the combined
  33. wisdom of the net. But I do have a pretty good collection notes, etc.

  35. In a few days, I will put together a FAQ section on this upgrade. If there is
  36. enough interest, I will also post the software soureces to comp.sources.3b1 .
