  12. I have seen an optical tape drive at a trade show (AIIM, SanFrancisco, circa
  13. 1988).  It used tape that was approx. 2 inches wide and was written with 
  14. a laser.  The media was $10,000 (yes, 10 thousand) per reel and it could  
  15. hold something like a terabyte (so they said).

  17. It was fascinating to look at and the company supposedly had the entire
  18. production sold for the next two years to the US Gov't.  Places like
  19. NOAA, etc. according to them.
