- at *all* the sites I've worked at, ranging from Federal Govt
- systems to a *large* State Govt site, Operators were *expected*
- to know more than just how to feed paper into a printer..
-
- I was *shocked* when I got to another site and the Ops Supervisor
- knew virtually NOTHING about the O/S or hardware.. or damn near
- anything.
-
- and here's Carl upset about *users* !!
-
- Sites that I've managed have always had ops people who are EXPECTED
- to know and/or learn a GREAT deal..

- exactly.. except of course for those born with a photographic
- memory AND an encyclopaedic knowledge of Unix, VMS, Novell, OS/2,
- hardware troubleshooting, networking, etc from the moment they
- were born and never asked a dumb question or made a mistake :-)
-
- I need a couple of those for ops here... :-}
