  20. One practical difference between the VT220 and 320 that I am aware of is the
  21. ability of the 320 (and 420) to load soft fonts, at least as they are used by
  22. Aleph, the standard  system for online catalogs in Israeli university libraries
  23. (and some others). Thus, we can display bibliographic information for Arabic
  24. books in legible  Arabic characters only  on VT320 and VT420 terminals (and
  25. compatibles) but not VT220 and below. In addition, the soft fonts are used for
  26. Hebrew characters in cases where the terminal does not have the Hebrew chip
  27. standard on terminals in Israel.

  29. The terminals we have can display Cyrillic as well, though we don't use it.

  31. Of course, if you don't need to work with more than one character set, this
  32. will not be relevant for you, but it does point out the difference between the
  33. two classes of terminals.
