- Here are a few "gotchas" you might want to watch out for when setting
- up an Alpha AXP machine:
-
- Don't submit SYS$UPDATE:libdecomp to a batch queue without any
- parameters. One can do this on an OpenVMS system but the AXP version
- has an INQUIRE which will go into a loop and fill up your disk. This
- is mentioned in the manuals but it was such a slight difference that
- I must have skipped by it.
-
- To boot into sysgen you have to >>> SET BOOT_OSFLAGS 0,1 - I read
- all the manuals that I received but if it was in one I missed it.
- Don't forget to reset this at the next shutdown.
-
- In SYSGEN if you want to clear a setting, say STARTUP_P1
- you have to do a SET STARTUP_P1 "". A long time ago under
- VMS I had the impression that a null string wasn't allowed
- and had got into the habit of putting a blank in a field
- to clear it. If you try this under AXP the initial setting is kept.
-
- Well, that's all I've found out in my first 3 hours setting up
- our new machine. You'll probably be hearing from me again!
