- The PC Speaker sound driver is only a bare bones implementation of sound
- under Windows. Since it does not meet the minimum requirements of the
- MCI multimedia standard, it will not work with the embedded WAV data in
- these .avi files. If you run the Windows Control Panel and select Drivers,
- you will notice that the "Sound Driver for PC Speaker" is listed separately
- from the "[MCI] Sound" driver.

- The Media Player only supports MCI-compatible drivers. To play .wav files
- with the PC speaker, you must use the separate sound player, which is
- compatible with the more primitive driver. Obviously, the Windows kernel is
- as well, since you can associate .wav files with system events (see "Sounds"
- in the Windows Control Panel app).
