- The text page formatters pr and hp along with the spoolers lpr and hpr
- do not always appear to work as expected. I am using Coherent 4.0 on
- a 486DX box with an HP LJ4 (6 Mbyte memory, standard PCL 5) hooked up
- via a parallel interface on /dev/lp.
-
- For example, the use of lpr and hpr should be roughly the same for
- text files. However, hpr does not issue a final formfeed (0x0c) so
- the chances are about 59 in 60 that manual intevention is needed to
- eject the last page. Failure to do so causes the next print job to
- start immediately after the privous one on the same page.
-
- As reported before, I've also had some printing problems with the
- example troff document given in the troff man pages. The sequence
-
- .sp |8i
- .ps 500
- .ce
- E
-
- which is supposed to make a rather large letter "E", appears to work
- with hpr (I think there's an hp filter prior to the hpr). However,
- using lpr fails with two blank pages ejected from the printer. The
- printer is using only factory default modes and the troff is
- generating PCL (not Postscript) as output.
-
- Have any other Coherent users had much experience with the more recent
- HP Laserjets? I use HP LJ IIIDs here at work and I would like to have
- print files at home in the same style. (Or even better because it's
- 600 dpi.) I do not (yet) have the Postscript upgrade. For those with
- Postscript printers connected to their Coherent systems, what is the
- collective experience with the Postscript option for troff output?
