- I think we need to gently guide the "newbies" towards the "netiquette"
- texts that are widely available. The golden rules for any new members
- who may be reading this are:

- (1) Don't post anything until you have read every message on the news
- group for at least two weeks,

- (2) Don't post anything until you have read the FAQ (posted monthly)
- FAQ stands for "Frequently Asked Questions" and is in effect the
- newsgroup handbook.

- Follow these and you won't look like a twit to the thousands of people
- who read your messages. GIS-L readers are generally fairly forgiving,
- but there are some newsgroups I read where people have been reduced to
- jelly beans by some of the old hands for their lack of netiquette.
