  11. Greetings, and thanks for the enthusiastic response to the 
  12. spatiotemporal bibliography we've just completed.  The number
  13. of requests for the bibliography has just been overwhelming.
  14. So overwhelming, in fact, that were having a very hard time 
  15. mailing it to all those who've requested it!

  17. If you would like a copy of the document or the database and do not 
  18. have ftp access, we ask that you first try the ftpmail facility available 
  19. on cs.arizona.edu.  Simply send an e-mail message to ftpmail@cs.arizona.edu 
  20. that contains the ftp commands needed to retrieve the desired files.  The 
  21. subject line of the message is irrelevant.

  23. For example, to retrieve both the postscript bibliography and the 
  24. bibliographic database, the body of the message should contain the
  25. following.

  28.     cd bib
  29.     get spacetime.bib
  30.     get spacetime.ps
  31.  
  32. The files will be mailed back to you, divided into chunks that can
  33. be glued together with the help of your favorite editor.  The man page
  34. for ftpmail is appended below in case anyone has further questions.
  35. If, for some reason, you are not able to get ftpmail to work, please 
  36. let us know, and we will get the documents to you.

  52.      ftpmail - FTP access via electronic mail

  54. SYNOPSIS
  55.      mail ftpmail@cs.arizona.edu

  57. DESCRIPTION
  58.      ftpmail gives any person with email connectivity  access  to
  59.      the   University  of  Arizona  Computer  Science  Department
  60.      anonymous ftp site.  ftpmail takes a script contained in the
  61.      body  of  an email message and follows it to obtain listings
  62.      and transfer files from a remote network site.  The  subject
  63.      line  of  the message is ignored.  Large files will be split
  64.      into manageable chunks, each of which will be mailed to  the
  65.      user.   Binary  files  will  be made suitable for email with
  66.      either uuencode or btoa.

  68. COMMANDS
  69.      Valid commands to the ftpmail server are:

  71.      reply-to email-address
  72.           Who to send the response to.  Defaults to your incoming
  73.           email address.

  75.      help
  76.           Send  this  help  file.   All  other  instructions  are
  77.           ignored.

  79.      open [ site [ user [ pass ] ] ]
  80.           The open command is mandatory.  Only cs.arizona.edu can
  81.           be  accessed from this server, but it must be specified
  82.           as the site to log in as any user other than anonymous.
  83.           User  and  password  can  be  specified  for users with
  84.           accounts    on    cs.arizona.edu.      Defaults     are
  85.           cs.arizona.edu, anonymous, reply-to address.

  118.           compress files and directory listings using compress(1)
  119.           before emailing back to user.

  122.           These are mutually exclusive options for  converting  a
  123.           binary file before emailing. Default is uuencode(1).

  138.      the top level of the ftp directory.

  152.      Connect to cs.arizona.edu, send back the file TR91-14.ps.Z in the
  153.      reports/1991 directory.  As this is a binary file it has to be transferred
  154.      in binary mode.  Because it is binary it will automatically
  155.      be uuencoded (the default binary encoder).  Then change to ../../icon
  156.      and mail back a compressed directory listing.  Although compressing ls
  157.      output makes it binary, which then has to be encoded, it still ends up
  158.      smaller than the original.
