  15. PARAMUS, NJ (JAN. 25) BUSINESS WIRE - Ericsson GE has reduced the
  16. retail price of two of its key wireless data communications products -
  17. the Mobidem(R) Portable Wireless Modem and the Viking Express Wireless
  18. E-Mail Package, which includes a Mobidem, Hewlett-Packard 95LX palmtop
  19. computer and wireless elecronic mail utility.

  21. Effective immediatley, the price of the Mobidem is now $775 from
  22. $1,395 while the complete Viking Express package drops to $995 from
  23. its original price of $1,995.

  26. to benefit immediately from wireless data communications," says Ake
  27. Persson, vice president of Ericsson GE Mobile Communications. "There
  28. is no excuse now not to have one.  It is as essential as a briefcase."

  30. The Mobidem provides two-way wireless data communications connectivity
  31. for palmtop, notebook, and laptop computers.  Utilizing Mobitex
  32. wireless data networks operated in the United States by RAM Mobile
  33. Data, a joint venture of RAM Broadcasting and BellSouth Enterprises,
  34. the Mobidem supports automatic nationwide roaming for PC users that
  35. travel around town or across the country.

  37. The Mobidem is a one-pound, rechargeable wireless data modem that
  38. communicates with the Mobitex network.  It can be easily connected to
  39. any PC that has an RS-232 serial port, and it features and LCD display
  40. that shows radio signal strength and number of messages stored.

  42. The Viking Express package couples a Mobidem with an HP 95LX palmtop
  43. computer and a DOS-based E-mail utility called RadioMail Remote from
  44. RadioMail Corp. of Menlo Park, Calif.

  46. Mobitex is a public mobile data network that uses packet-switched
  47. wireless technology and provides automatic nationwide roaming. Packet
  48. switching allows messages to be transmitted or received in a few
  49. seconds, eliminating the problems associated with intermittent fading
  50. or unexpected disconnections.
