  13.  The COMM WEEK Editorial warns Stratacom, AT&T, and cisco about using
  14. their new partnership as an advantage over other ATM vendors.

  16. I disagree.  The three WAN pioneers are in a position to pursue the
  17. only validated market for ATM products, and should be encouraged to
  18. pursue these goals without inhibition.  The ATM vendors groups have
  19. agreed on the essential elements of cell-relay, and to hold individual
  20. companies to some standards forum beyond its usefulness does the
  21. customer a disadvantage.

  23. Later when the knowledge base or multi-media market opens up, other of 
  24. the ATM vendors can break off and pursue these markets.

  26.  We have already seen that some differences in flow control, call
  27. set up, and adaptation standards will become part of the separate
  28. markets.  As long as the essential elements remain, and vendors
  29. occasionally re-join to fix remaining interface standards, then let them go.
