- I've been told that at least with the late model ESS central
- offices, that after a few minutes of noise from the CO, that
- dial tone is removed and line is let go dormant. After some
- arbitrary mega-hours, a trouble (card) is generated. And if the
- trouble is cleard (ie: phone goes back on-hook), you get your
- dial tone back. No problems. I've had a short across my line
- for about 25 hours once and as soon as I unshorted the line, I
- had dial tone again. Telco never called or made contact over the
- trouble.
-
- I can't see any boogers in taking your line off-hook
- for hours (or minutes in the case of this thread) unless you are
- serviced by a telco that still has racks of switching relays.
-
- I used to busy my line while waffle was processing. Now I do all
- processing in seperate Desqview windows.
