  19. Vietnamese International Standard Code for Information Interchange
  20. (VISCII) is an 8-bit superset of ASCII, allowing full encoding of
  21. Vietnamese in precomposed form. VISCII has been designed for maximum
  22. compatibility with existing MS-DOS, MS-Windows, Unix and X-Windows
  23. software, allowing Vietnamese to be used with most existing software
  24. packages.

  26. VIQR (VIetnamese Quoted-Readable) is a 7-bit visual encoding scheme
  27. which allows Vietnamese to be transmitted over 7-bit electronic networks
  28. and mail channels, as well as to be readable on ASCII terminals.

  30. This file is a VISCII text file describing the standards. It can be
  31. viewed using:
  32.  
  33.     * DOS VISCII-compliant editors such as: VNELVIS, BUTVIET, or
  34.       utilities such as "more," "less" and most DOS text editors
  35.       running under VIETDOS.
  36.  
  37.     * MS-Windows 3.1 MS-WRITE, MS-WORD, etc., with WINVNKEY
  38.       running in the background.

  40. The file can be printed out using:
  41.  
  42.     * On DOS: VIETDM (dot-matrix printers), VLASER 2a (laser
  43.       printers), VPRINT (both laser and dot-matrix printers)
  44.  
  45.     * Most MS-Windows 3.1 editors using VISCII TrueType fonts.
  46.  
  47. NOTE: BUTVIET, VIETDOS, VIETDM, VLASER, VPRINT, and WINVNKEY are
  48. available in the same archive directory. The VISCII TrueType fonts are
  49. supplied with WINVNKEY and VIETVU, also available from your archive.
