  32. Don't know anything about it, but it reminds me of another interesting stat:

  34. By per-capita representation, native born Canadians are more likely to be
  35. on welfare than immigrants, and equally likely to be on unemployment.  As
  36. an immigrant myself (American, which wome of you will view differently), I
  37. can say taht in over ten years, I've accepted _no_ public assistance,
  38. though I have been eligable.

  42. My cousin runs the Manhattan Naturalization Center of US immigration (the
  43. largest immigration centre in the US), and she tells me that Canada is
  44. highly thought of in the global immigration community as a perfect example
  45. of how to do great work without being taken for a sucker.  By US law, an
  46. immigrant who has been on welfare the ENTIRE TIME of his/her stay in the US,
  47. will get US citizenship after five years.  In Canada, despite popular
  48. belief, illegal immigrants and immigrants with criminal records are almost
  49. always packed up and sent back, period.

  51. I've had the pleasure to work with many immigrants, most recently
  52. Ethiopians, who, while speaking a little funny (in three to seven
  53. languages), are quite willing to work for a living.  Most of the people on
  54. Pogey I've known looked just like me; white.
