  29.              DIGITAL NOW RANKED AMONG LEADING PC VENDORS

  32. MAYNARD, Mass. -- January 20, 1993 -- Digital Equipment Corporation 
  33. has penetrated the top-ten PC makers ranking for the first time, 
  34. according to a monthly market study published by Computer 
  35. Intelligence of La Jolla, California.

  37.      "Digital was the fastest growing PC vendor in 1992, 
  38. establishing Digital's credibility in Intel-based PC products.  The 
  39. forthcoming Digital Alpha AXP-PCs, running Microsoft's Windows NT 
  40. operating system, should help Digital grow even more aggressively in 
  41. 1993," said Dan Ness, senior industry analyst, Computer 
  42. Intelligence.  Digital launched its Desktop Direct catalog business 
  43. in January, 1992, and introduced its popular DECpc LP family of 
  44. desktop computers in August.

  47. Intelligence's monthly listing of fastest growing PC makers.  No 
  48. other vendor has had a stronger presence on that list in the past 
  49. year," Ness said.

  51.      Each month, Computer Intelligence conducts in-depth interviews 
  52. with 4,500 computer purchasing managers at large and small 
  53. establishments in the U.S.  Computer Intelligence publishes its 
  54. findings from these interviews in its monthly PC Market Monitor.

  57. about 20 other vendors in order to reach its current ranking of #9 
  58. among PC industry leaders, according to Computer Intelligence.
