  28. MAYNARD, Mass. -- January 26, 1993 -- Digital Equipment Corporation 
  29. today announced the immediate availability of DECsafe Failover, 
  30. version 1.0 for ULTRIX RISC, software which provides automatic 
  31. failover, restart and recovery of ULTRIX services and applications 
  32. in a DECsystem computing environment. In addition, DECsafe Failover 
  33. software enhances the already powerful ULTRIX networking environment 
  34. by providing transparent Network File System (NFS) failover, giving 
  35. both Digital and non-Digital users high availability to mission-
  36. critical, enterprise-wide data.

  38.      "One of the many strengths of an enhanced UNIX operating system 
  39. like ULTRIX is its powerful networking ability in a distributed 
  40. client/server environment," said Vickie Farrell, Digital's UNIX 
  41. Product Marketing Manager. "Now, DECsafe Failover increases high 
  42. availability and data integrity across the network, preserving user 
  43. productivity by quickly restoring access to services and 
  44. applications without manual intervention. In this way, DECsafe 
  45. Failover can be a powerful foundation in an enterprise-wide, 
  46. distributed computing environment, adding value to a proven, robust 
  47. operating system," added Farrell.

  49.      While DECsafe Failover software is designed to minimize the 
  50. impact of system interruption, customers also benefit from increased 
  51. application availability and improved computing power. Featuring 
  52. dual path access, DECsafe Failover software enables two DECsystems 
  53. to provide the same resources, i.e., the allocation of one system 
  54. (slave) for non-critical application processing and the allocation 
  55. of a master system to perform critical processing. In the event of a 
  56. master system failure, the slave is able to perform both the 
  57. critical processing and restart the failed system automatically, 
  58. minimizing the interruption to users.

  60.      In addition, duplicate copies of critical disk data can be 
  61. maintained and recovered from disk drive and controller failures 
  62. through Digital's optional ULTRIX Disk Shadowing product.

  65. at $8364.
