  14. Things started to get better, but thanks to the Regan-Bush administration
  15. virtually every gain was reversed.

  17. Thurgood Marshall played a major role in helping to restructure the society
  18. yet most of his lifes work was undone.

  20. Did you know that during the regan bush error (I use that word intentionally)
  21. that college enrollment of African Americans declined by 22%?  Did you
  22. notice how during the Regan bush error, that there was a rather successful
  23. attempt at showing how white males suffered from affirmative actions programs?
  24. (I'm not going to get into a discussion about quotas.  I have lots of friends
  25. that are underemployed.)  In this society there has always been affirmative
  26. action for white males.  Affirmative action for people of color was 1) an
  27. addmission that the society was racist to the core, and the 2) some form of
  28. redress was required to give African Americans access to what the society
  29. offers.  During the regan-bush error, it seems as if this was all forgotten.

  31. In my mind the period which we've just gone through has done little for the
  32. plight of women, people of color, gays, children, the environment, latin
  33. america, africa or anything that white males cannot see themselves directly
  34. benefitting from.  Think about it.

  36. And the media just uncritically sat by while all this happened.

  38. If information does not liberate people, it is useless.  The information
  39. that is delivered to us on a daily basis does not liberate us.  It does little
  40. to improve the quality of our lives and our environment.

  42. Again I challenge the American people, who can watch a president go to an
  43. enviromental summit and reject all the major proposals to save the planet.
  44. It seems to me that this should have caused us all to jump out of our skin.

  46. The problems we face accross cultures and everywhere else have a lot to
  47. do with the quality of the information that we receive.  In addition it has
  48. alot to do with the consciousness that we the people have formed.

  50. At the prompting of some of my instructors, I recently started to think
  51. about the legacy of "enlightmentment style thinking" and the problems
  52. it creates for us.  First chance I get I'll put something on here for us to
  53. discuss.
