  18. The perception in America about persecution of christains and Americans (some
  19. see it as the same..) seems to come from a few factors operating here in
  20. America.... One is the media's interest in generating "live" reports and
  21. pictures, be it from Iraq now or Iran before...where a lot of slogans
  22. such as "Down with America" and burning of American flags are yelled by
  23. "Arabic looking" people in the background with signs in Arabic script, make
  24. Americans think that "fundamentalist Arabs" are in conflict with christianity...
  25.  
  26. Second is the confusion with the American "Black muslim" movement which at
  27. one time (but the perception still exists) advocated against whites...
  28.  
  29. Finally, America does have stories here of persecution, particularly, in Iran
  30. of those of other religions (Bahai's in particular)...as many people of
  31. Iranian descent used religious persecution in applying for political
  32. asylum in the U.S.....
