- I have sent the following letter to WordPerfect technical support
- <73760.2460@compuserve.com>. I suggest that any of you who are also
- experiencing the serious bug described in it join me in lobbying them
- for a release on Compuserve and the Internet of a fixed WIN2WRS.EXE.

- Subject: WPWin 5.2 italics bug
- Status: OR
-
- When I print italicized text with WPWin 5.2 using a Windows printer
- driver, it is printed with irregular letterspacing: there are ugly gaps
- in the middle of words, and the letters are placed with uneven
- whitespace between them. This happens on all three of my Windows
- printer drivers (QMS PS-820, Star NX1000, and WinFax 2.0).
-
- Also, italicized text does not display as italic in Print Preview (it
- displays as ordinary Roman text).
-
- It seems that the problem is in WIN2WRS.EXE -- when I replace this file
- with the version from WPWin 5.1 and then delete my WRS files and allow
- them to be rebuilt, the italicization problem goes away; however I then
- get an "Updating Printer Information" pause every time I switch printers,
- so this is not a satisfactory solution.
-
- Since the inability to print decent-looking italic text is a serious
- inconvenience, it seems to me that it would be an excellent idea to
- release a fixed version of WIN2WRS.EXE on Compuserve and on the
- Internet, or at least on the WP BBS, rather than making all us users
- suffer for three months until the next interim release -- several other
- major software firms do this kind of thing regularly.
-
- Does this seem like a possibility?
-
- Thanking you for your attention, and hoping for a response,
-
- Richard Reiner
