- Another approach to handling printing and print accounting in general is
- to create a print server in conjunction with the form of the CP START
- which dedicates the printer to files produced by that userid (to prevent
- interference). We use that approach to have our way with printing,
- including generating a tailored banner page and eliminating the trailer
- page, in feeding a Xerox 4050. All without fuss or CP mods. The server
- virtual machine does the conceptual equivalent of a REPRINT operation,
- and in examining CCWs could surely be used to count pages, write to CMS
- files, or whatever you want. Such a virtual machine takes minimal CPU
- and allows great flexibility. I recommend that approach to any site
- which needs tailored printing, as it's simple and powerful. Take
- advantage of the *SPL interface, and you really have something.
