- Paddy Riley (University of Nottingham) inquired about LISREL
- and the necessity of using PRELIS with the LISREL program...

- For analyzing covariance matrices in LISREL, the general
- defaulted assumption is that one is analyzing a covariance
- matrix with maximum-likelihood estimates of the model
- parameters.
- There are circumstances when one wishes to analyze other
- forms of matrices with distribution-free estimation
- procedures. In these circumstances one needs PRELIS to
- estimate the tetrachoric, polychoric, polyserial, etc.
- correlations, and particularly the associated weight matrices
- for these estimates.
- Thus, if one wants analyze censored, binary, or ordinal
- variables, or if one wants to perform analyses under non-normal
- assumptions, one must use PRELIS prior to using LISREL.
