  33. -------->Betty:  There is very little written about the "hidden
  34. curriculum" in second language classes.  You might look into the
  35. classroom-based research literature in the language arts, such as that of
  36. David Bloome or Judith Green.  Look into the journal Theory into Practice
  37. around 1987.  Also, look into Fred Erickson's chapter in the handbook for
  38. Research on Teaching, Merlin Wittrock, ed., 1986.  I have written a little
  39. in this area myself: teaching and learning foreign languages is a process
  40. of social interaction and more than just L2 is being learned:  attitudes
  41. about the class, others in the class, the teacher, the subject matter,
  42. etc.  The early work of Sue Philips and Katherin (sp?) Au, also the work
  43. by Cocheran-Smith "The Making of a Reader" all deal with the issue of the
  44. "hidden curriculum" in some way or another.
