- I wholeheartedly concur with Dennis' sentiments concerning the SEDS Mom
- proposal. As for moving the permanent SEDS address, we should first
- decide on the relative merits of the two proposals from SFA and Embry-Riddle,
- and based on that decision, make a choice as to the new SEDS-USA mailing
- address.
-
- As for the reimbursement issue, I feel that I should first call to the
- attention of the board members, and the rest of the seds-l readership the
- following message that I sent to both Jeff and Lisa a week ago. In
- particular, I would like to note that I have still not received a reply
- from Lisa on this or any other message that I have sent to her. As I
- understand it, she is back at MIT (indeed, she was present at the phone
- t-con yesterday from her dorm room, I believe).
- Ad Astra,
- Irwin

- Jeff and Lisa,
- Due to a variety of circumstances, I am currently giving serious
- consideration to stepping down from the National Board. First and foremost,
- I have every intention of finishing up the thesis this year in time to
- graduate, and as such will not be able to devote the necessary time and
- attention towards my board duties, in particular towards finishing up the
- 501(c)3 reinstatement for SEDS. I am more than willing to cooperate with
- whomever we decide should work on this (Kate?) and provide such person with
- the necessary forms as well as whatever possible advice I might be able to
- give.
- My other reason for coming to this decision has more to do with the
- general state of SEDS-USA, and the disaster that I perceive this year is
- turning into. On many occasions since DC, I and many others on the board
- have made our displeasure with the status at the National HQ quite apparent,
- but this seems to have had no positive effect. Rather, it has more likely
- spurred a negative reaction on the part of SEDS members at MIT. I have on
- several occasions asked for financial information from you, Lisa, only to
- either be ignored or to have you "assure" me that the information was
- forthcoming. I need this information if I am to even attempt to work on the
- 501(c)3 stuff, and your attempts to divert attention from this area have
- served to frustrate me in my efforts to help SEDS National.
- As a result, I will make this resignation official following the
- CalSEDS '93 conference (effective February 15th) unless I see clear indications
- from the MIT HQ that they are willing to cooperate with me in a more timely
- manner on financial matters. I want to help SEDS, but right now I perceive
- that I have become just another "warm body" filling a post on the National
- Board, and fear that I will be ineffective in my efforts to reinstate the
- 501(c)3 status.
- Sincerely,
- Irwin
