- Subject: Summary of Phone T-con
- Lines: 59
-
- The following is a summary of the phone t-con that took place at
- 12 noon PST (3pm EST) on Sunday, 24 January 1993. The sole topic of
- discussion was the "SEDS Mom" issue.
-
- [ Note: this summary is based on my handwritten notes from the t-con. If
- anyone notes any discrepencies, errors or omissions, please post them!]
-
- Present: Peter Diamandis, David Webb, Lisa, Amy, Dennis, Drew, Bill, Irwin,
- Jeff
-
-
- Peter briefly introduces the concept of the SEDS Mom and states that Marylin
- Sheddan would be ideal for the position
-
- David gives some background on Ms. Sheddan:
- - involved with space activities
- - has taught space at U. of Northern Florida
- - member of Mensa
- - is "enormously emphathetic"
- - currently is at Embry-Riddle
-
- Peter adds that she tried to start a SEDS chapter, but had difficulty getting
- information sent to her, so she is acutely aware of the critical role of
- communications. Also, he says that she is by no means interested in running
- the organization in any way.
-
- The question of salary is brought up. It is understood that raising money
- for a salary will require some time, and that she will have to fundraise
- on her own. Peter and David suggest that we have her work a certain number
- of hours per week on fundraising a salary, with a goal in 6-12 month's time
- of having her full-time raising her own salary. It's pointer out that her
- strong experience in writing proposals will be of great help during the
- fundraising.
-
- The goals, position description, and key issues for the position are
- listed (from a one-page document Peter prepared and which will be posted
- sperately).
-
- David mentions that she has worked with the aerospace business for 25 years,
- giving her a fair amount of business expertise.
-
- Embry-Riddle is willing to provide facilities for the SEDS Mom to use,
- including office space, phone, fax, etc. A careful eye will have to be
- kept on expenditures, because money there is tight.
-
- Peter states that the first decision that needs to be made is whether or not
- to bring Ms. Sheddan on line. He believes that this decision should be made
- as soon as possible by the board. The board should then consider whether to
- take office space at Embry-Riddle or to accept all or some part of the
- Spaceport Florida Authority proposal Amy posted recently.
-
- The t-con ends here, a little under a half-hour after it started.
-
- The discussion of the post-phone t-con, which took place about a half-hour
- later on ICB, will be summarized in a seperate post.
-
- Ad astra,
-
- Jeff
