  13.     RANGOON, Jan 21, Reuter - Burmese anti-drug squads have seized more than 24
  14. kg (53 lbs) of heroin in two operations in Lashio in northern Shan State, the
  15. Working People's Daily said on Thursday.
  16.     It said officials searching a car at a checkpoint on Monday found 21.7 kg
  17. (47 lbs) of heroin hidden in the vehicle. The driver and his assistant were
  18. arrested.
  19.     Two other men alleged to own the drugs were arrested later.
  20.     The newspaper said anti-drug squads on Tuesday confiscated about three kg (6
  21. lbs) of heroin in Ho Mon Ward in Muse after a shoot-out with three men.
  22.     Two of the men were arrested, although one later died. The
  23.  third man escaped.
