  12. (This is a generic email answer that I send to users who request
  13. information about becoming an Op at Aggieland Relay.  I would,
  14. of course, edit it appropriately for the circumstances at the
  15. time.  I try to treat it as any other job being filled and
  16. require an email resume, a virtual or in-person interview, and
  17. check references from other users and Ops as appropriate.)

  21. Info about becoming a RelayOp.....  Some of the qualifications
  22. for a RelayOp are:  patience (lots of it), maturity, sense of
  23. responsibility, not easily angered, knowledge of Relay operations
  24. and guidelines and knowledge of BITNET/CREN (these can be learned of
  25. course), a liking for people and tolerance of people differences,
  26. ability to be firm but fair and objective, etc.  A good sense of
  27. humor is helpful too sometimes!  :-)

  29. A relayOp is responsible for assisting users with problems,
  30. answering questions, enforcing the rules when needed, monitoring
  31. Relay's operations and keeping it running efficiently, etc.

  33. The best way to become a RelayOp is to get to know the other Ops well
  34. and especially your MasterOp so they can observe what kind of user and
  35. person you are and how well you deal with other people.  You should
  36. also send an informal resume or e-mail to your MasterOp in order
  37. to have it on file.  Some things to include would be:  why you
  38. want to become a RelayOp, why you think you would be a good
  39. RelayOp, your current status (classification, major, student
  40. worker, staff member, etc.), education background, work experience,
  41. and a list of references (Relay users and Ops), etc.

  43. For Aggieland Relay, it must be the primary Relay for the
  44. user's node (or in exceptional cases, the secondary Relay service
  45. area for that node).  If so, then the user can send me the above
  46. information so I can keep it on file for future reference should
  47. a vacancy occur at our Relay.
