- Betty,

- Check out an interesting (if a bit old now) study by John Pryor (social
- psychologist at Illinois State University......who supervised my Master's
- thesis). Pryor and his colleagues found that the validity of self-report
- questionnaires can be affected by such factors as: habituation to
- self-focusing stimuli, cross-situational consistency of subjects' behavior,
- and the degree to which the questionnaire reflects the subject's actual
- behavior. They assert that if the face validity of the questionnaire is
- high, subjects who are motivated to be consistent will bring their behavior
- and self-report in close relation.
