- Subject: Commentary on position announcements...
- Lines: 23
-
- The recent announcement of positions available at Radfor University prompts
- this note, though it is not intended to reflect on Radford per se (...fine
- school, up and coming, stars in attendance, well worth considering if you
- have the needed credentials, etc., etc.,)
-
- It would be enormously helpful if those of you who post position announcements
- would give an indication of the teaching responsibilities expected: particularly
- the number of courses (or hours or some such), the level of teaching expected
- (e.g, undergrad, grad), and the topical areas.
-
- Having reviewed several mountains of applications, it is patently clear that
- some individuals expect to have a very active research career and that that
- is their priority. Others expect primarily to teach. If more information
- about teaching, since it becomes such a black hole for time, is available in
- position announcements, potential applicants might make more reasonable
- decisions about situations that they might more readily fit into (or not),
- saving their money and aggravation, as well as the time (and equivalent
- aggravation) of those reviewing the applications.
-
- Thanks.
