- Actually, there aren't any stages that are refered to as 'tribal'. The
- third stage is the first Conventional stage and stresses interpersonal
- conformity so in a sense it may be related to 'tribal' behaviour. There
- isn't a strong theoretical link between any of the stages and gang behaviour
- though. I think you will also find that more people end up at stage 3
- than any of the higher, more 'desirable' or developed stages, at least in
- the general public. There really aren't that many people in stages 4 and
- 5 and Kohlberg actually withdrew stage 6 as a stage that people actually
- attain.

- Mind you, I should add that I think Kohlberg's typology has it's
- limitations but even within those limitations I don't think the
- description of stage 3 as 'tribal' is valid.
