- 1. HEre's a tip for the PageMaker FAQ:
- don't have a high density drive or MacLink Plus, but still want to transfer
- a PC PM file to the Mac, here's what we did:
- First, we made the PM file small as possible using "Save As"
- Second, we uploaded it into our Vax using binary form.
- Third, we donwloaded it to the Mac.
- Finally, since the file appeared as document, we had to set the creator
- and type for the file. A Macintosh file has a specific signature which
- allows programs to recognize their own document types. In PageMaker 4,
- the type is ALB4. The creator is ALD4. We used Central Point FileFix
- (from MacTools Deluxe) to change it. ResEdit and Disktop can also be used.
- A hsareware program called FielTyper will do the same thing. It can be
- ftp'd at the wuarchive site in the directory mirrors/info-mac/util.
- opps, that should be FileTyper.
- Once we changed the document, it opened right up. We exeprienced a
- problem when printing however. The file had a graphic (triangle) done
- by a PC paint package. We got a "unsupported image" error. Anyways, we
- deleated it and created a new one in FreeHand.
-
