  15. A particularly readable overview of the Internet gopher can be found
  16. in a recent issue of UIUCnet accessible over the Internet through the
  17. University of Illinois Gopher Server in one of the menu selections
  18. under "Information about Gopher".

  20. "Exploring the Power of the Internet Gopher" presents an overview
  21. in some considerable depth with a minimum of technical jargon.

  30. Brian Nielsen's compliment paid to the University of California, Santa
  31. Cruz's gopher InfoSlug is richly deserved.  As a notable gopher among
  32. a rapidly expanding universe of gophers, it owes, no doubt, much to
  33. the cooperation between the campus library and computing center; yet,
  34. I suspect the greater influence in its qualities is that of its
  35. principal manager Steve Watkins.

  37. Likewise another notable example among library-based gopher servers
  38. is that of North Carolina State University Library whose character
  39. is largely shaped by the creativity and technical expertise of
  40. Eric Morgan.
  41.  
  42. While developments over the last several months have provided
  43. each with a distinctive character, both have strengths in common.
  44. One of the more notable strengths is the rapidity with which each has
  45. incorporated new resources and refinements in their respective
  46. offerings.  A second is the ability to accomodate considerable
  47. growth without the necessity to undertake a major restructuring,
  48. a characteristic founded on insightful conceptual models laid down in
  49. early planning.

  51. It is both interesting and informative to peruse among the use
  52. statistics of the UCSC's InfoSlug gopher.
