- Dear cranky etc, to be fair to NSI, is it their fault that TELNET
- is a top layer application that can't depend on the layers he sits
- on to handle the variety in terminal types? Something stinks in
- some layer or other. Just about the only query we get for internet
- users of our OPAC is why it asks them to LOGON, a symptom they
- should have used TN3270 but didn't and got into TSO without warning.
-
- Nevertheless, yeah, it would be real nice if a mainframe product
- could be supported using mainframe technology. I was in the focus
- group at NUGM 1991 that discussed what became NOTISrv and I recall
- mentioning that I wouldn't bother with it unless their was internet
- access. There seems to be such access now which is good. 3270
- support would be the icing on the cake.
-
- The MUSIC Product Group here ported TELNET into their o/s (MUSIC)
- which also runs on S/370 or S/390 mainframes and they fixed it to
- talk seamlessly with either UNIX or mainframe. So it can be done.
- Perhaps I need to get a MUSIC logon code.... :-)
