  11. We are running RiceMail on a VM/ESA mainframe, and (until recently)
  12. were a BITNET-only site.  We have recently gone on the Internet.  I
  13. have been charged with the responsibility of getting RiceMail to
  14. send to Internet sites (we are using SMTP for Internet).  I have
  15. run into problems.

  17. To send mail on Internet, I put the following in my MAILSYS XEDIT file :

  21. 'SETMAIL MAILER SMTP'
  22. 'SETMAIL KEY.LINES 2'

  24. With this setting, I can send to Internet addresses (for example,
  25. axvsccn@uicvmc.aiss.uiuc.edu), but not to BITNET addresses (for
  26. example, JACK@FANDM).  A file sent to a BITNET address results
  27. in the following 'bounced mail' :

  57. Then I have the opposite problem - mail via BITNET works fine, but
  58. mail sent to an Internet address results in the following message:

  63. Is there any easy way out of this ?  Ideally, a user should be able
  64. to specify a BITNET address (e.g. MAIL JACK@FANDM or even
  65. MAIL JACK@FANDM.BITNET) *or* an Internet address (e.g.
  66. MAIL axvsccn@uicvmc.aiss.uiuc.edu) without having to change
  67. their MAILSYS XEDIT file every time they want to send a mail
  68. file.  I could not find anything in the MAILBOOK LISTING file
  69. about this.  Where is SETMAIL documented ?

  72. P.S.  If I create a mail file (in XEDIT, for example) and save it,
  73. I can send it via Internet with the SENDFILE command (e.g.
  74. SF  BWALTON MAIL A  to  sflatt@austria.gislab.teale.ca.gov)
  75. Also, CMS NOTE seems to work for both BITNET and Internet -
  76. but, alas, not RiceMail.
