  17. It's true that Mona Van Duyn, not Maya Angelou, is the current "Poetry
  18. Advisor to the Librarr of Congress."  For several years now, since, I
  19. think, James Dickey held the post, that office has also been termed "poet
  20. laureate."  But for a long time there was resistance to the idea of a poet
  21. laureate in the U.S., and a scruple to keep the Library of Congress post
  22. from appearing as such, presumably to avoid emulation with the "courtly
  23. muses" etc.  Ms. Van Duyn's interesting poem was featured on NPR a few
  24. nights ago, and her new book is well worth reading.
