- 1. Request for Input into AGARD Information Science Agenda
-
- From: WALT BLADOS <wblados@Sgi.NASA.GOV)
- Subject: AGARD INFORMATION SCIENCE RESEARCH AGENDA
-
-
- The Technical Information Panel of the NATO Advisory Group
- for Aerospace Research and Development (AGARD) recently
- published AGARD Advisory Report 316, "A Research Agenda for
- Scientific and Technical Information," Novembr 1992.
-
- This report presents the results of a workshop held by the
- TIP on 7-9 April 1992 in Lisbon, Portugal.
-
- This report constitutes a 'first-cut' at establishing an
- international information science research agenda. What we
- would like to see now if for individuals and organizations
- such as ALA, SLA, etc., take a look at it, make comment, and
- propose additions and deletions, etc. In short, a
- comprehensive critique in an effort to refine the AGARD
- agenda, using it as the basis of establishing a true
- national - U.S. - agenda.
-
- So I invite each and everyone of you to take this as a
- tasking, and as individuals or leaders of organizatons to
- submit your comments to me. I will acknowledge each
- submission, and will keep you informed of what is happening.
-
- Thanks in advance for your interest and cooperation.
-
- Sincerely,
-
- Walt Blados (wblados@sti.nasa.gov

- 2. Computer Literacy Survey
-
- From: Tony Mitchell <tmitchel@TIGGER.STCLOUD.MSUS.EDU>
- Subject: A computer literacy survey
-
-
- Dear colleague
-
- Our apologies for any cross-posting of this message. As there is
- no easy way to send a message to a large number of listservs we
- ask that you bear with us in our work.
-
- If for some reason, due to the size capacity of your software
- part of this message is cut off, please inform one of us and we
- will split it and send it to you in size that your software can handle.
-
- This project is being done in parallel with other research
- undertaken for the US Congressional Office of Technology
- Assessment (OTA) (the group that did Power On!) and results of
- this work is to be included in the review being done for OTA.
-
- During 1992, we sought to determine what states in the USA had
- computer literacy requirements. We found many states do not
- have a requirement and where there was one it varied
- considerably. To that end, we are now considering how one
- defines computer literacy from an INTERNATIONAL point of
- view. We have developed a two-part questionnaire dealing
- with aspects of computer literacy and invite EDUCATORS AT
- ALL LEVELS to participate in this study.
-
- The first part of the questionnaire deals with computer support
- at your college/university and is attached to this message.
-
- The second part of the survey deals with computer literacy
- issues and what should be taught in a "computer literacy"
- course/unit.
-
- Because of the format of part two, we felt that it could not be a
- part of this e-mail section. If you are interested in participating
- in the second part of this survey, please supply us with your
- name and address below and we will send a copy to you.
-
- Your Name:
- Postal Address:
- E-mail Address:
-
- Please Indicate what part you play in education eg. lecturer,
- student, administrator, etc.
- Please mark with an [X] the role you play in education:
- Teacher [ ]
- Lecturer [ ]
- Tutor [ ]
- Administrator [ ]
- Student [ ]
-
- At what level are you involved:
- University [ ]
- College [ ]
- High School [ ]
- Middle School [ ]
- Primary School [ ]
- Infant School [ ]
-
- As is the case with any questionnaire, we have a schedule to
- follow. Below is the schedule for this questionnaire. We
- ask that you help us by adhering to that schedule.
-
- PLEASE RETURN PART ONE OF THE E-MAIL SURVEY NOT
- LATER THAN:
- 25 JAN 1993
-
- IF YOU PARTICIPATE IN PART TWO OF THE SURVEY
- PLEASE RETURN PART TWO NOT LATER THAN:
-
- 28 FEB 1993
-
- We would like to thank you in advance for the time and effort
- you are putting into answering this survey and remind you:
-
- ANY INFORMATION GATHERED FROM THIS SURVEY IS CONFIDENTIAL!
- NO SCHOOL, DEPARTMENT, INSTITUTION OR PERSONAL NAMES WILL BE REVEALED IN THE
- OUTCOMES OF THIS SURVEY.
-
- Please send your replies directly to us; DO-NOT post them to the
- list. We will publish the results to the network on
- completion of the collection of the data.

- in this survey, please feel free to forward this information to
- them. Further, if you know of anyone not on E-mail who would
