- One of our students is in need of some information on the coaching career
- of Fritz Pollard, the first black All-American at a major US university
- (Brown) and a star in the early National Football League. Our information
- is that he coached a professional team in Hammond, IN around 1923-1925.
- Does anybody out there have any particulars about his career? Was he, in
- fact, the first black professional football coach?
- Most of the information we have been able to find in standard sources
- deal with his playing career at Brown and the NFL, and also mention
- that he was involved in the motion picture industry during World War II.
- Any other information would be appreciated.
-
- Please respond to my personal Internet address.
-
- Thank you.
