- On page 107 of the TCP/IP V2R2 "Planning and Customisation" manual
- (SC31-6082-1) there is section describing the TRANSFORM parameter
- of the INTERNALCLIENTPARMS configuratiom statement (PROFILE TCPIP).
- Can anybody tell me what a 3270 transform program is....
-
- The TRANSFORM parameter is used in conjunction with a product from
- my company called Sim3278 for TCP/IP; this product resides inside the
- IBM TCP/IP address space (VM or MVS) and provides 3270 emulation,
- for terminals which have no "TN3270" emulation, e.g. VTxxx terminals
- on 1980's vintage terminal servers (new ones often have TN3270 built-in),
- or PCs running NCSA TELNET (i.e. vs. Clarkson CUTCP). Yes of course
- 7171s or TN3270 make more sense for most people....no argument there.
- There are various cost constraints, maintenance and support costs,
- and other factors which make one approach preferable than another.
-
- The TRANSFORM parameter causes the IBM TCP/IP product ("HAL" or "FAL")
- to dynamically load the Simware product. Note that specifying TRANSFORM
- without having Sim3278 installed results in an ABEND (806) when the LOAD
- fails. With Sim3278 installed, whenever an incoming TELNET session is
- opened on the IBM host, and TN3270 subnegotiation fails, then
- the Simware product will take over and perform the "TN3270" emulation
- instead. Contact me privately if you have any questions or interest
- in the product.
