  20. There is a field in NV-RAM, at DC00:02F4, which specifies the time in
  21. milliseconds to delay before reading the first carriage return (used for
  22. determining baud rate).  Years ago, when I first installed my 7171's,  I
  23. discovered that if this value was too small or too large, the terminal-type
  24. prompt would not always get through.  I somehow settled on the value 3000ms
  25. (3 seconds), which has been working all this time.  Our 7171 ports are attached
  26. to a Develcon port selector, to which the users' terminals connect via twisted
  27. pair and modems.

  29. To change the value to 3 seconds, issue this 7171 Operator Maintenance command:

  33. Of course, you may require a different value in your environment.

  35. (Note:  The 7171 stores full-word (two byte) values in byte-reversed order.
  36. So, B80B = x'0BB8' = 3000 decimal).
