- I offer one observation on multiple choice tests from the perspective of a
- "small liberal arts college" where we limit class size to 25. Most of
- classtime is spent on discussion, though with direct questions set for those
- discussions. I have noticed, however, that few-to-none of my students take
- any notes. So I set about 50 multiple choice questions on a test, covering
- conclusions we reached on the questions we had discussed. I tell the students
- I am doing this and ask them to review the questions. Invariably this
- section of the exam is the lowest scoring. My conclusion is that students
- need to be held to some standard of retention and "encouraged" to create
- something enduring they can take out of a class. Bob McJimsey Colorado
