  24. The following is a listing of all electronic network-accessible
  25. sacred texts that may be freely retrieved via FTP or LISTSERV. The
  26. Bible, the Book of Mormon and the Koran (also spelled Quran) are
  27. available at many sites and in a variety of formats, such as ASCII,
  28. zipped (.zip), compressed (.Z) and archived (.arc). The following
  29. section indicates where low ASCII versions of these sacred texts may
  30. be found on selected sites. For related programs see the section

  67. have sufficient disk space available on your e-mail account before

  167.  Searching for Online Sacred Texts with Archie
  168.  
  169. The sacred texts listed above are available via FTP through many
  170. different hosts around the world. If the above locations are
  171. difficult to reach from your location you can find alternative
  172. locations by using an Archie server. Telnet to the nearest Archie
  173. server and login as archie. To conduct a search type prog keyword
  174. where keyword is the name of the desired text. Some appropriate
  175. keywords are bible, koran, quran, mormon, and tanach. If your site
  176. does not allow for Telnet sessions it is possible to search Archie
  177. by sending e-mail messages to the nearest server. Information on how
  178. to use Archie can be obtained by sending the command HELP as an e-
  179. mail message to archie@archie.mcgill.ca (or archie@any.node.below).

  181. available via FTP as the file archie_guide.txt from the node
  182. hydra.uwo.ca in the directory /libsoft/ and the document Internet

  192. Archie will provide user information if you type the command help.
  193. It is possible to have your Telnet session search results mailed to
  194. you by typing the command mail your@address which causes the output
  195. of the last command to be mailed to the specified address or
  196. comma-separated list of addresses (replace your@address with your e-
  197. mail address. All the various Internet addressing styles are
  198. understood. BITNET sites should use the convention
  199. user@sitename.bitnet). If you use the command set mailto
  200. your@address before conducting any searches with the prog command,
  201. then the output of any search will be mailed to you upon entering
  202. the command mail. This is very useful if you intend to conduct a
  203. number of searches in one session.

  229.       The Bible, Koran and Book of Mormon can be read online
  230.       via Telnet to the University of Maryland's Info
  231.       Database. Telnet to info.umd.edu and login as info.
  232.       Select Reading Room and then select Religion. It is
  233.       possible to FTP the texts from this system but, due to
  234.       the systems design, it is not altogether as easy as
  235.       FTPing them from the above sites. The Koran, King James
  236.       Version of the Bible and the Book of Mormon are also
  237.       available for reading online from the Cleveland
  238.       Free-Net. Telnet to freenet-in-a.cwru.edu or freenet-in-
  239.       b.cwru.edu or freenet-in-c.cwru.edu and login as (2)
