- As with so many rental movie on VHS, it isn't captioned because the company who
- owns the distribution copyrights is either too cheap to pay for captions or
- ignorant of the benefit of captions. $200 to $500 or even $1000 to pay for
- captioning is peanuts compared to the greatly expanded audience and expanded
- profits the distributor will receive. What people need to do is write to these
- distributors (addresses on cassette or cassette box) and tell them to please
- make efforts to closed-caption their rental videos. Tell them that you know at
- least 100 people who cannot rent this video because its contents are not
- accessible without captions. Even if they got 10 letters, that's 1000 rentals
- they cannot profit from. For those of us with word processors, you can just
- keep a form letter in the computer and generate them as needed. If you don't
- make your point with videocassette distributors about demanding captions, then
- you have no right to complain that a video is not captioned.
