  12. I am wondering which rules most people are using to make 'Personal Name'
  13. mail addresses.
  14. E.G. if my name = Van Uytven and my Surname = Herman, some possibilities
  15. are :

  17.      Herman.Van_Uytven@urc.kuleuven.ac.be
  18.      Herman.Van-Uytven@urc.kuleuven.ac.be
  19.      Herman.VanUytven@urc.kuleuven.ac.be
  20.      Herman.Van.Uytven@urc.kuleuven.ac.be

  22. Our first choice was Van_Uytven, but the '_' is invalid in X.400
  23. adresses, so I guess we need to drop this possibility.
  24. Herman.Van.Uytven is neither a good choice, because X.400 will
  25. have troubles in separating Name and Surname.

  27. Other names we have :
  28.  Surname : Karel          Name : Van der Haegen
  29.  Surname : Anne-Mie       Name : De Meyer
  30.  Surname : Paula          Name : D'Hondt        (a single quote)

  32. Most names I see have Surname.Name, so the question is narrowed to
  33. what you do with spaces, minus sign and quotes in parts of a (sur)name.
  34. Accented characters (like in Ren{) will be translated to the
  35. unaccented characters because this network is still 7-bit.

  37. So I am wondering which rules other sites have, and why.
  38. The goal we have is to give everybody an e-mail account like
  39. Surname.Name@org.kuleuven.ac.be, so that we only have to put the
  40. org in our paper telephone book.
