I watched this in video format over the last two nights, and found
it absolutely brilliant, Lynch's best work since *The Elephant Man*!

I've probably already said enough to get y'all going sending those
flaming cards and letters, but I am profoundly, and I do mean
profoundly curious about the poor critical and public reception of
this great film!  I suppose I'll have to go back and read a lot of
reviews (ick!), but I'm really hoping some folks on this list will
instruct me as to the nature of my perceptual and overall psychic
error.  For instance, I'm sort of hoping (expecting!) that Rolando
hated this film, and will treat us to a mordant denigration of same.
And Rolando, after that rather vulgar conflation of *Last of the
Mohicans* (which for all its faults is not cartoonish) with *Rambo*,
you *need* to mount an articulate attack (or dare I even think it?!?
. . . *positive* appraisal) in order to recuperate your reputation
with me (as if you're going to lose sleep over this issue!).

I shall await your denigrations and deconstructions of *Fire*, and then
shall respond with a post so brilliantly argued that your opposition
shall wither like the fitful flames of good intentions before Bob's
grimace of ghastly grinning grunge.
