- I watched this in video format over the last two nights, and found
- it absolutely brilliant, Lynch's best work since *The Elephant Man*!
-
- I've probably already said enough to get y'all going sending those
- flaming cards and letters, but I am profoundly, and I do mean
- profoundly curious about the poor critical and public reception of
- this great film! I suppose I'll have to go back and read a lot of
- reviews (ick!), but I'm really hoping some folks on this list will
- instruct me as to the nature of my perceptual and overall psychic
- error. For instance, I'm sort of hoping (expecting!) that Rolando
- hated this film, and will treat us to a mordant denigration of same.
- And Rolando, after that rather vulgar conflation of *Last of the
- Mohicans* (which for all its faults is not cartoonish) with *Rambo*,
- you *need* to mount an articulate attack (or dare I even think it?!?
- . . . *positive* appraisal) in order to recuperate your reputation
- with me (as if you're going to lose sleep over this issue!).
-
- I shall await your denigrations and deconstructions of *Fire*, and then
- shall respond with a post so brilliantly argued that your opposition
- shall wither like the fitful flames of good intentions before Bob's
- grimace of ghastly grinning grunge.
-
- With the utmost sincerity,
- michael mcdonald
