  11. Dear C18-L Readers,
  12.      Elaine Smyth, one of the world's leading rare book librarians, will
  13. be curating a gala exhibition of eighteenth-century rarities for the
  14. forthcoming SCSECS convention.  Elaine has hit me with a query to which I
  15. ought to know the answer, but, dagnabbit, I've suddenly realized that my
  16. experience of eighteenth-century visual space is mostly in black and white,
  17. and in the style of engravings!
  18.     Elaine is wondering whether there were any color associations for
  19. (respectively) the Whigs in the Tories (in the manner, say, of the contemporary
  20. association of Irish Protestant factions with orange).  Elaine would like to
  21. fit the color of exhibition tags to the subject and to insure proper
  22. ornamentation for her exhibit.  I'm sure that we can help her make the color
  23. answer the sense!
