- Dear C18-L Readers,
- Elaine Smyth, one of the world's leading rare book librarians, will
- be curating a gala exhibition of eighteenth-century rarities for the
- forthcoming SCSECS convention. Elaine has hit me with a query to which I
- ought to know the answer, but, dagnabbit, I've suddenly realized that my
- experience of eighteenth-century visual space is mostly in black and white,
- and in the style of engravings!
- Elaine is wondering whether there were any color associations for
- (respectively) the Whigs in the Tories (in the manner, say, of the contemporary
- association of Irish Protestant factions with orange). Elaine would like to
- fit the color of exhibition tags to the subject and to insure proper
- ornamentation for her exhibit. I'm sure that we can help her make the color
- answer the sense!
- I you'd like, you may reply directly to Elaine at
