- Maybe this'll help. As a result of a much-too-long harbored
- interest and the name list provided by my rock 'n' roll class, I made
- an effort to get into more and more jaz, lately. At least once a
- week I make a trip down to ye ol' publick librarie. B'ham pub allows
- one to take four cd's at a time. I simply raid the Jazz section for
- anything I can get my grimy little paws on.
- My first week was spent on:
- Count Basie _Basic Basie_
- _Kansas City 7_
- _Let's Get Together_
- Billie Hoiday _The Silver Collection_
-
- This week I got:
- Chet Baker _My Favorite Songs_
- _Chet in Paris_
- Miles Davis One of the compilation CD's I can't remember
- which
- ??? _A Tribute to John Coltrane_
-
- I kinda scewed on the Coltrane CD. I thought it *was* Coltrane,
- not just a bunch of guys doing Coltrane songs. Guess I'll pay closer
- attention next time.
- I also got two videos. One on Louis Armstrong and the other on
- Bessie Smith. I realize this does a lot to give you names and such,
- but at least its a way to acces new sounds and at least the older
- jazz. Good luck.
