- Subject: Problem with AIX 3.2 telnet
- Lines: 40
-
- I am having problems with telnet under AIX 3.2 on an RS/6000. It
- consistently fails for certain host systems. For example, if I telnet
- to a Cisco reverse terminal server connected to an IBM 7171 and press
- the carriage return key I get the following characters on the screen:
-
- f`xxxx`x~
-
- instead of the expected 'Enter terminal type'. I have run most of my
- tests from an aixterm window on an Xstation 130. Attempts to telnet
- to a Cisco reverse terminal server fail in the same way as shown above
- under AIX 3.2, from an aixterm window on the system console, and from
- the system console with no windowing system. Sun OS and Next systems
- can telnet to the same Cisco reverse terminal server successfully.
-
- We have IBM TCP/IP installed on an MVS system. We have also installed
- SimTCP/IP, an add-on product that allows the MVS system to accept
- VT-100 telnet sessions (as opposed to tn3270 sessions) and perform
- VT-100 to 3270 protocol conversion on the MVS system. I have no
- problem with tn3270 sessions. If I telnet to MVS as a VT-100 I get the
- following on the screen:
-
- SimTCP/IP for MVS Release 2.10:ESP
- Copyright Simwar .
-
- P F
-
- On the real screen the period and the upper-case 'F' are in column
- eighty. I have moved them in a bit to avoid line folding problems. This
- display includes pieces of text from the expected output, but is clearly
- corrupted. Staff members in another department have reported that they
- can telnet to the MVS system as VT-100s successfully. They are using
- Macintoshes and IBM PCs. I don't know which vendor they bought their
- TCP/IP hardware and software from.
-
- The RS/6000 telnet does seem to work correctly with Annex reverse
- terminal servers.
-
- Does anyone recognize this problem, or have any good suggestions for
- determining the source of the problem? I am discussing this with IBM,
- but they are currently giving me the run-around.
