- Thanks for the note on version 4.5. We don't have it yet,
- but I tried setting the flag to 1 to solve the problem
- mentioned in #123. It works fine for monograph records, but
- there is still a problem for item records once a serial has
- been set up in the Serials module. (We don't have version
- 4.5 yet by the way.) In the Serials module, when you are in
- a position to retrieve an item record there are 2 ways to do
- it--both Retrieve # and # item actually retrieve the item (#
- item does NOT just let you look at the item, you can change
- it). The setting of the flag in CEHD has no impact on the
- whether Exit returns you to the search screen or the list of
- items for records set up in the Serials module. If you use
- Retrieve # and then Exit you are returned to the search
- screen. If you use # item and then Exit you are returned to
- the first page of the Item listing.
-
- We are getting around the problem by using # item instead of
- Retrieve #, but the Exit from a retrieved item record should
- return you to the list of items instead of the search screen
- when you use the Retrieve # option.
-
- The second point you made concerning Request # 122: If I
- understand your response correctly, setting these defaults
- would mean that any item created would have the same
- standard information as defined in CEHD. This is not what
- #122 is about. What we want is that the information for a
- new item would be taken from the existing items for that
- record only, not that any new item would have defaulted
- information. This is particularly of use when doing a major
- barcoding operation. If we default the information so that
- all items for any record have the same standard data, this
- would not be a good solution for sites which have several
- branches especially if all processing is done centrally.
-
- I agree with you about the importance of volume sorting.
- There have been some excellent improvements in this area
- since we submitted that enhancement request.
-
- I would like to mention the request for making the Search
- Copy option available in records which have been set up in
- the Serials module. This request is listed under the System
- section in the Enhancement Requests list for Version 4 and
- actually is more applicable to the OPAC and to other staff
- modules such as Cataloging.
-
- Thanks again to Hye OK Park for sending out the comments in
- relation to Version 4.5.
